Matera
Not only are we at the bottom of Matera, we are seemingly at the end.
Our luggage has exploded and our clothes are bearing the brunt.
Jim’s hat has taken on a new shape
Jay has done some research on the Sassi area of Matera (which is where we are staying) - it was established in 7000 BC - in 1952 malaria was rampant and the government stepped in and moved everyone out due to the inhumane conditions. In the 80’s tourism resurrected the area.

A bit of a rest- and we are off to dinner.
Carrie chose a restaurant we had walked by - she loved the ambiance - turns out the food was amazing too! They took us to the lowest level and let us sit in the spacious boat table.
No room for gelato tonight…but we are headed back to Rome tomorrow and as long as the rain cooperates- we should be able to squeeze in two more gelato stops.
I had plenty of room for a gelato!
So many awesome photos! Matera looks like a very cool place, indeed. The cave dwellings are so interesting.
