On the move to Granada

Today we are going to Granada.

But first we have to say goodbye to Mike and Elena. What a great visit we had with them.

There are no trains directly from Valencia to Granada. The train travels to Madrid and then back to Granada; and the train station (s) in Madrid where you change trains are far apart. It would take 6-7 hours so we book a private driver. He picks up in Valencia at 9:45 in a very comfortable Tesla SUV. We head out for Granada and make it about 2 hours before we have to stop to charge the car for 30-40 minutes. So we find the only thing nearby - a cafe for a cup of coffee.

Jordan tries to win at video roulette..not so successful.

And we are back on the road again for about 90 minutes when we have to charge again for 30-40 minutes

These are very remote desolate locations with nothing to do but stretch your legs and walk the parking lot. Back on the road for another hour or so and we make a stop to see a couple of cave houses in Guadix - while the driver goes to charge the car.

Not a great depiction of cave living with the color tv going.

2nd cave house is much better. The guide speaks English here and walks us thru how they lived in the cave. The cave was 70 years old and he used to visit his grandparents here. These are much more recent cave dwellings than the historic one we saw in Matera.

This was the kitchen where they cooked, slaughtered animals and stomped grapes for wine.

Pictures of his grandfather stomping grapes.

And we are back on the road for the last hour drive to Granada.

We arrive at our hotel at 6 p.m. - that train option might not have been so bad after all. Only downside would have been dealing with our luggage and that’s a pretty big downside.

Our hotel in directly across from the Alhambra. We are having dinner tonight at the Parador in the Alhambra. At 8 o’clock we take a short walk thru the Alhambra to the restaurant.

the first picture above is a view of the Alhambra from our hotel room.

We dined outside in this beautiful setting.

We are exhausted and can hardly wait to get to bed.

Only two pictures of our food (last night was overkill for food pictures)

Pumpkin ravioli

Risotta with pork and crab

And that’s a wrap for the day.

Dining al fresco in Italy is the ultimate venue. White tablecloths among all those trees with those lovely ravioli and risotto dishes make me want to be there!

Replying to

That’s all very true, but that was the last country. Now we’re in Spain with croquettes, Iberian ham and Sangria. Still amazing to eat outdoors.
